Tips on Choosing the correct carpet
There is no doubt that carpets offer homeowners more warmth, softness and are much quieter than any other floor coverings. Today’s carpet styles, colours and textures, blend well with any home décor and with a variety of other flooring products. From traditional to formal to country you will always be able to find a carpet that will suit and enrich any interior setting.
Purchasing a carpet can be a confusing process as its not something we undertake regulary but it can become simple once you know the basics.

Style and Design
The style and design of the carpet should complement the overall aesthetic of the room.
Do you want your carpet to be a subtle background, or the centre of attention?
The colour of the carpet can significantly impact the overall ambiance of a space. Consider the colour palette of the room and the mood you want to create. Lighter colours can make a room feel more spacious, while darker colours can add warmth and coziness. Keep in mind that lighter shades may require more maintenance to keep them looking clean and bright.
If it’s a subtle background that you require then stay in the neutral colour families such as earth tones, beiges, greys etc. If you want your carpet to stand out or make a statement, then it may be a striking colour you require or a bold pattern.
Your furniture will also play an important part in your colour selection. If your furniture is dark then you will probably want to choose a light colour so that the furniture stands out. If you have light coloured furniture then you would reverse this process.
Where’s the carpet going to be installed ?
The amount of footfall the carpet will receive is a major consideration. If you are wanting some luxury in the bedroom this would be very different from your requirements for a high traffic hallway and Staircase.
This is where the density, type and material forms the most important choice. A carpet with a higher density is going to be more resilient than an open weave. Loop pile carpets are harder wearing than Velvets and Saxony’s. If the areas are subjected to dirt and spillages than a man made polypropylene will offer bleach resistance so therefore are classed as Stain free as there not affected by cleaning products.

Costs can vary from a very affordable £10 per square metre for a simple synthetic carpet to over £100 per square metre for a premium hand-woven design. It’s important to accurately measure your required carpet size so you can price it accordingly. Awkward shaped spaces such as hallways and staircases may sometimes require more or less carpet than you think, therefore accurate measuring is a must. Fortunately, we offer a complimentary measuring service, so if you’re confused about the size of carpet you require, please contact us and a member of our friendly team will be able to assist you. If you’re visiting the showroom, it’s a good idea to bring some measurements of your own so we can get an idea of the overall cost of your project.
Have a look.
When selecting a carpet it is imperative that you view the product with your own eyes on the floor in the room where it is to be installed. It is not a product that can be just selected off an image on teh internet.
We recommend you first visit our showroom (or arrange for our home selection service) to make an initial selection and borrow the samples to take home FREE OF CHARGE to view them in the rooms natural and artifical light.
